WHOSE ENERGY ARE YOU PAYING FOR?
Consider this – if energy consumption is based on an average, then whose long showers and carelessness with the light-switch are you paying for? Sub-metering is a fair way to allocate energy costs – with those who consume more, paying more and those who consume less, paying less.
Intellimeter's metering systems are so small, efficient and dependable; the only thing you will notice is a smaller bill. Sub-metering is also good for the environment. Experience has shown that when a metering system is installed, consumption drops by up to 22% the first month.
BEWARE THE "FREE" SYSTEM
The fad in sub-metering these days is the "free" metering system. These are not all that different from "free" cell phone deals or other "no money down" deals, with one major difference – the person who signs the deal is not the person who pays the bill. The developer or property management company makes the deal, but you get to pay.
Things to expect from a "free" system:
• huge "system use" or "delivery" charges;
• the metering company owns the wires in your building;
• no control or recourse over increased monthly fees; and
• no service guarantees.
When things go wrong where will the metering company be? Will they be able to solve problems and provide customer service? Or will they have moved onto the next fad while still collecting your money every month?
Would you have signed this contract if you’d had the choice?
WHAT CAN YOU DO NOW?
You have a choice. Condo Boards can withdraw from these service agreements within a specified period of time. Consider your options carefully. These "free" systems are full of commitments that may haunt you and other residents for many years to come.
METERING SYSTEM NOT IN YOUR BUDGET?
The Canadian government has developed programs to financially assist groups with the planning and installation of sub-metering systems. Learn more by contacting an Intellimeter sales agent or visit the Ontario Energy Board website.
